I wanted to make a four engines model as I had been get comfortable with a twin a little bit. I don’t interesting a scale model therefore the four engines models doesn’t alike to any real plane. It was made from parts and materials I had already. As I was beginner I started building real F3A model 60 – size “Loaded Dice”. It was model that didn’t fit my experience at what time. But anyway I bought plan, material and canopy even in the United Kingdom. I started building even. Only the fuselage was built almost completely when my enthusiasm was finished. The fuselage waited its time a long time.
Actually this model is a father of my four engines model. If you through look the model carefully you’ll be able to see character F3A shape of the model. Of course the forms are not the same but actually the construction has only minor changes.
The place of canopy was sheeted with sheets of balsa. A sport canopy and four engines on wing are not fit to each other for my opinion. The nose of fuselage was sheeted with balsa and firewall was removed. That all I rebuilt fuselage.
The stab was made according plan. The square fin and stab was enlarged 50%.
The wing was built according plan from KIT Extra 60 Great Planes. Wing span was enlarged 20 cm till 1800 mm.
Four 30 Magnums four strokes were installed at first but due low reliability (I had to back to home without had model airborne) they were replaced to 30 OS’s four strokes.
The model has standard four channel control. Throttle is controlled with four servos from one throttle channel through homemade adaptor. Rudder is controlled with push-pull system. Elevator is controlled with balsa rod. Ailerons are controlled from one channel with two separate servos and Y cable.
As you see the controlling system is very simple.
April 20, 2010 the model made maiden fly. One engine stopped after 5-7 minute of fly. I got used to model and landed it successfully. Generally it was successful fly.
